Congratulations to Big League Impact vice president and MLB pitcher Kyle Gibson, who has earned his team’s Roberto Clemente Award nomination for the second straight year (and three times overall)!

The Clemente Award recognizes the MLB player who best represents the game through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field — all values that are central to Gibson and his family.

Serving and caring for others has been an integral part of Gibson’s character throughout his decade-long MLB career, which also includes stints in Minnesota, Texas and Philadelphia. He first teamed up with BLI in 2017 and has been a true champion of our mission ever since.

When Gibson arrived in Philly in 2021, fans were quick to witness Gibson’s impact both on and off the field. He made an unforgettable introduction by immediately rallying his new teammates and fans around the 2022 #ALLWIN Philadelphia campaign, making donations to Cradles to Crayons, which supports low-income and homeless children, and Philabundance, an organization combating food insecurity in the Philadelphia area. As a Philly, he continued to earn wins for charities working both locally and internationally throughout the 2022 season by introducing philanthropic events such as Swinging For Impact and our signature fantasy football league.

Of Gibson’s work in Philly, the team at Philabundance shared: “The funds donated by Kyle Gibson enabled us to provide 5,382 people with a meal in our nine-county service area. Thanks to dedicated donors like Kyle, the people we serve are able to get fresh, nutritious produce and shelf-stable foods that are culturally responsive, healthy, and convenient to access. Your support during this critical time will enable us to continue to provide our communities with the healthy, culturally relevant foods they need and deserve.”

After being traded to Baltimore in December 2022, Gibson immediately contacted the Baltimore Orioles front office to discuss his charitable passions. Throughout the 2023 season, Gibson has rallied his teammates to join him in giving back through the ongoing #ALLWIN Baltimore campaign, our signature Topgolf event, a charity fantasy football league and a number of Mission 3:18 outings with his O’s teammates during road series.

Gibson also gives back during the off-season, through events such as the annual Big League BLAST sporting clays tournament near his home in Washington, MO. In recent years, the event has raised funds for Grace’s Place (an emergency shelter for children and teens) and local food pantries.

During a joint interview with founder Adam Wainwright in 2022, Gibson said that he and his wife Elizabeth feel particularly called to support organizations working to lift kids out of poverty.

“Kids are just so innocent,” he said. “They have no decision on what type of a situation they go into, no decision on who their family members are. They’re just there. It’s an honor to be able to partner with organizations that are able to lift those kids out of poverty, get them into an educational system that changes generations for years to come.”
